Folsom: Experience the largest free-roaming preserve in the United States at Global Wildlife. Over 4,000 exotic and endangered animals are up close and personal across the 900 acres. Stay for the NorthShore Garden show in March or the Cajun Mardi Gras-themed parade that happens every year.
Hammond: Nestled halfway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is this quaint college town, with a lot to do. Explore the African American History Museum or adventure into the Southern Swamps Byway.
Lacombe: This laid back creole community boasts a wide range of outdoor activities. You can check-in at Bayou Adventure before heading into the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge which has 15,000 acres of coastal marshes.
Madisonville: Enjoy life right on the Tchefuncte River! You’ll experience a rich boating history while enjoying some of the best seafood in all of Louisiana.
Mandeville: Throw a line out off of the city dock and kickback. This town is protective of the area’s heritage and natural beauty that comes with living right on Lake Pontchartrain.
Pearl River: Once known for being a logging town, the city now has a large wildlife refuge that houses the pristine Honey Island Swamp.
Ponchatoula: Come for the strawberries, stay for the wildlife. You can enjoy the Strawberry Festival in April or have a backcountry experience in the Joyce Wildlife Management Area.
Slidell: From the elusive alligators in the swamps to the bright celebrations, life in this city doesn’t get boring. Experience tree-shaded streets and tasty food in Slidell.
